Who does hair loss affect?
Recent
studies have shown that hair loss affects 25% of the female population aged
40 years old, and one in two women suffer hair loss at 50.
Baldness affects 40% of men aged 30, 50% of men aged 50 and 80% of men aged
65.
When is there real loss?
Losing 25 to 30 hairs a day is normal. Start worrying if you see hairs
“carpeting” the shower or if your hair gets clotted in your comb. In other words:
more than 60 hairs a day.
Are there different types of hair loss?
Yes: diffuse and
local. The latter is caused by infections or traumas and can be solved.
The most frequent diffuse hair loss is Androgenetic. It affects both men
and women, although it appears more frequently among men. It has a hormonal
and genetic cause. Given the hyperactivity of testosterone, male hormones,
which appear in both sexes, travel through the blood stream to the hair
bulb and the adjacent sebaceous gland and are transformed into DHT
(dihydrotestosterone) thanks to an enzyme. The hair production cycle speeds
up, the life span becomes shorter, and the body stops producing hair, thus
causing baldness.
There is no long-term solution, so the best plan is prevention, which can
only be done by strengthening the hair from the root.
Reaction-based alopecia can be caused by child birth, high fever, certain
medicines or psycho-affective shock.
In these cases, the best solution is a suitable cosmetic hair treatment to
activate hair growth and strengthen hair.
